Carnegie Painted VIII
Celebrate our "authentic small town" look!
Hosted for the eighth year in a row by the 3rd Street Gallery, "Carnegie Painted" celebrates images and impressions of the town of Carnegie, PA. One of the most common comments from the outsiders about Carnegie is how "pretty" the town is. Let's see how artists interpret that idea as we invite visual artists from all over to submit images of Carnegie in any medium.
Hosted for the eighth year by 3rd Street Gallery
Underwritten for the sixth year by Fidelity Bank
Whether just for practice or in order to create a finished piece of artwork, artists often render what they see, drawing and painting "en plein air" or simply rendering images that are familiar to them in their studio. A "painted" show brings together all the images of one locale, be it a region, city, small town, neighborhood or single street.
In conjunction with Carnegie's annual Arts and Heritage Festival, "Carnegie Painted" gives visitors to the festival and to the small town in general a view of the town they might not have seen as artisits exhibit their impressions and renderings of Carnegie's sights and scenes.

As long as there has been art, there has been the artist as the subject. As perhaps man's most intimate and pure display of consciousness, self-portraiture reveals the artist as he sees himself, as he wants to be seen, how he studies himself, how he imagines himself, and as the simple signature which states "I lived", lingering long after the artist has passed. It is perhaps the most personal story that the artist can tell and makes the self-portrait one of art’s most important subjects.
