Capture the warm June light in a plein air workshop with Ron Donoughe. Each day will start with a demonstration and then you will paint as Ron offers helpful insights. Bring your lunch and share ideas and experiences with fellow artists. At the end of each day Ron will lead a critique of the groups work.

Landscape Workshop

Portrait Painting Workshop

The workshop is third in a series to show a student a method in painting portraits, the workshop will be in opaque after completion of prior sketches in charcoal and oil wash.

Materials: yellow ochre, raw sienna, venation red, raw umber, ivory black, white, alkyd painting medium, mineral spirits, and some of your other colors, those who wish to work in (oil water) paint may do so, brushes, rags, etc.

Canvas 20”x 24”, paint thinner, etc.

Portrait Painting in Oil Wash
with Philip Salvato

The oil wash is the second in a three part series of portrait painting, the oil wash is a process in laying in the foundation before one proceeds in heavy oils.

Materials: oil painting medium alkyd base, brushes, turpentine or mineral spirits, linseed oil, cotton cloth, one or two colors, ivory black, two or three 20x24 canvases

Time: July 14 Mon. & 15 Tues. 10:00 am until 3:00 pm

Students from the first charcoal session will be in the same seat for the oil wash, the model will be the same, it will be a continuation of the same pose.

Charcoal Portrait Workshop

The workshop will be designed to develop preliminary drawings before one proceeds to paint. Vine charcoal is an excellent medium to help find the answers to these illusive questions
